10.26.2008 Flavor of the Philippines Fundraiser

On 10.26.2008, the New Hope missions team hosted the Flavor the Philippines Fundraiser Event. It was an event that we scheduled during the early summer months, when we secured commitments from individuals to serve for the Bags of Joy mssion for 2008.

It was a VERY successful event. We had enough luncheon plates to feed 130 people. The team rolled over 500 pieces of lumpia and we raised over $2,000 to help some members meet funding goals for the trip. We also raffled off prizes. We thank our generous donors for their raffle prize contributions: Gaylord House Bed and Breakfast, Aleynena Krause, Jeanna Kidd, Jade Bonifacio, and Benedikte Brodin.

HISTORY
This is the second year that we organized this event. Last year, when Ali Fujii, Pastor Jon Burgess and Jasen Oda went on a mission trip to the Philippines. Mosaic Ohana was excited and super supportive. After spending hours and hours rolling lumpia, preparing vegetables, cutting up meat, rinsing chicken, cooking rice, frying lumpia, setting up the blu cafe, etc. The whole event was very time consuming but very rewarding. We had wonderful support from our small group and other members of the church.

The story for this years event wasn't the same from last year, but still very important to us and we knew we had to do it. The thought of endless hours preparing food for us was daunting. Many members of our small group recently moved away and so labor support wasn't as plentiful. So a few weeks before the event at our planning meeting, the Lord inspired Jasen with an idea to find sponsors for our needs. We thought of the Filipino restuarants in the area and started brainstorming on ways to secure support. THANK GOD for Sharon and Lauro and the relationship they developed with Inay's Restaurant in Beacon Hill. We made a call to them and they gladly made the "ask" for us...and so we secured the support to receive Adobo and Pancit from them, they also graciously fried the lumpia. Shawn secrured a donation from Great Sun Restaurant Supply for the food containers. We also asked our friends to support ingredients for the additional food items we had. The Kidd's provided lumpia ingredients and Kris provided ingredients for the Bibingkang Kanin.

PRAISE GOD...he has been faithful to us in his provisions.

Special Thanks to: Art and Caleb Tizon, Auntie Gloria for selling lunch tickets/raffles, and Kontagious Movement for their spectacular hip hop performance.
